An increasingly important area of pediatric dentistry is the dental care of children with dental caries referred for comprehensive treatment under general anesthesia. A recent study by Hallett and O’Rourke (2002) on early childhood caries in school children in the Brisbane North region revealed that preventive dental care and knowledge of parents, as well as oral hygiene practices were important factors in controlling the progression of dental caries in ‘at risk’ children.
