Glass ionomer cements were introduced in 1972, originally designed for restoration of anterior teeth, erosion cavities, general cementation and as base/lining materials. (Wilson & Kent 1972). However, today the use of GIC as a restorative material lies mainly in the field of pediatric dentistry.
