Competitions

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry is committed to the study and advancement of, and the promotion of education in the field of paediatric dentistry. Each year the Society holds two essay competitions, one for undergraduate dental students, and one for postgraduate dental students. For further information on these competitions, contact the Federal Secretary/Manager. Essays should be accompanied by a covering letter and submitted to:

2006 UNDER-GRADUATE ESSAY COMPETITION

TOPIC:       Discuss the acute management of dental trauma in children, and its relationship to long term prognosis.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all dental under-graduates enrolled in an Australian or New Zealand dental school.

PRIZE: A prize of AU$500.00 (or equivalent in New Zealand dollars) will be paid by cheque.

2006 POST-GRADUATE ESSAY COMPETITION

TOPIC:       Discuss the dental implications of oro-facial clefting.

ELIGIBILITY: Paediatric dentistry post-graduate students from New Zealand and Australia who are currently enrolled in a Doctorate, Masters or a Post-graduate Clinical Diploma in Paediatric Dentistry programme.

PRIZE: AU$1000.00 (or equivalent in New Zealand dollars). The prize will be paid as follows;

  1. Return economy air travel to the 21st I.A.P.D. Congress in Hong Kong, 14-17 June 2007
  2. After payment of travel, the balance of the prize will be paid by cheque.
  3. If for any reason it is difficult for the winning candidate to attend this Congress, the prize may be taken entirely in the form of a cheque.

The deadline for the Essay is:  Friday, 6th October 2006.


ANZSPD Essay Competition - General Conditions

  1. Essays must not exceed 3,000 words with a maximum of 50 references.
  2. Essays must only be the work of individual candidates.
  3. There is no limit to the number of entries from any one dental school.
  4. Essays should be type-written and double spaced on one side of the page only. Bibliographic style should follow that of the Australian Dental Journal.
  5. Three copies of the essay must be submitted and no names or identifying marks should appear on or within the essays. The candidate’s name, home address, email address and University name should appear on a separate page loosely attached to the essay.
  6. A fourth copy of the essay must be submitted on CD.
  7. Essays will be coded for anonymity and sent to three judges. The three judges will be appointed by the Federal Council of ANZSPD Inc. The decision of the judges will be final.
  8. The winner will be announced on Friday, 15th December 2006. All participants will be advised of the result by mail or email.
  9. The winner will be required to have their winning essay published in “Synopses”, the newsletter of ANZSPD Inc
